OTTAWA, Sept. 20 /CNW/ - Under the theme "Residency Education, Reimagined," the third annual International Conference on Residency Education (ICRE) will host a gathering of presenters and delegates from around the world to share ideas, challenges and innovations regarding postgraduate medical education.

Highlights of the conference include:
- "Residency Reimagined: Trends and innovations in postgraduate medical education," a plenary session featuring an international panel of experts from Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada. The session will examine new formats for curricular models, learning strategies and assessment methods. 8:00 - 9:15 a.m., Friday, September 24
- "Duty hours across borders," a ground-breaking, half-day symposium on one of the most pressing challenges facing medical education. Striking the right balance between patient safety and the hours worked by residents is an issue that affects medical schools in Canada and worldwide. This session will explore duty hours reform in an international context and feature a panel of experts from Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia. 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Saturday, September 25
- "Patient-centered medical education: The future of health, health care and residency education." This closing plenary session will review the challenges facing residency education and the changing health and health care environment in Canada. The guest speaker for this session is Dr. Jeffrey Turnbull, newly elected President of the Canadian Medical Association, Professor of Medicine, University of Ottawa, and Chief of Staff, The Ottawa Hospital. 2:00 - 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 25
