Pan Am flame to visit Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, daytime celebration at the Canada Games Centre and evening celebration at Grand Parade
TORONTO, May 31, 2015 /CNW/ - On Sunday, June 7, Day 9 of the Pan Am Games Torch Relay presented by President's Choice® and OLG, the Pan Am flame will visit several sites in Halifax, including Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, the Canada Games Centre, Citadel Hill and Grand Parade.
The Pan Am flame will spend the day in Halifax visiting many of the local landmarks and attractions. Beginning the day at Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, the flame will then travel to the Canada Games Centre for a community celebration. The relay day will continue to Grand Parade when community torchbearer Mark de Jonge will light the community cauldron.
Sunday, June 7, 2015 (Relay Day 9: Halifax, NS)
Peggy's Cove Lighthouse – 8:30 a.m. (AT) (186 Peggy's Point Road, Peggy's Cove)
- Judy Lugar, world champion sailor, will be the first torchbearer of Day 9
Canada Games Centre – 10:15 a.m. (AT) (27 Thomas Raddall Drive, Halifax)
- Laura Pomeroy, Commonwealth Games medallist, swimming, and Andrew Nicholson, NBA player, will carry the Pan Am flame
Citadel Hill – 11:45 a.m. (AT) (5425 Sackville Street, Halifax)
- Noon cannon will sound to begin the torch relay with Tom Murphy, CBC Host, who will carry the Pan Am flame
Harbourwalk – 12:25 p.m. (AT) (1215 Marginal Road, Halifax)
- The Pan Am flame will be exchanged in front the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic
Grand Parade – 1 p.m. (AT) (1770 Barrington Street, Halifax)
- Mark de Jonge, Olympic medallist, kayaking, will carry the Pan Am flame and light the community cauldron
The Pan Am Games Torch Relay is a 41-day journey that will share the Pan Am spirit in more than 130 communities. The torch relay is one of the most exciting events as it sets the stage leading up to the Games. There will be more than 3,000 torchbearers and 180 community celebrations taking place.

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay, presented by President's Choice® and OLG, is supported by community partner CIBC, signature supporters Star Media Group and Metroland Media, Ontario Trillium Foundation and Porter Airlines, and funding parties the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario.
