OTTAWA, June 8, 2015 /CNW/ - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will open the Families in Canada Conference 2015 on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at 8:45 a.m., at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel. This event will mark the 50th anniversary of the Vanier Institute of the Family, which was founded in 1965, by General The Right Honourable Georges P. Vanier following the original Canadian Conference on the Family.
"Sharon and I are pleased to have this opportunity to share our views and experience on family life," said the Governor General. "As the parents of five daughters and the grandparents of twelve grandchildren, we have a deep appreciation for and understanding of the importance of family. Whatever the nature of one's family, kin or community, we all greatly benefit from the love and support of those who are dearest to us. Families are the fabric of our society and fundamentally impact and shape who we are."
