MEDIA ADVISORY - The School of Public Policy Launches "Citizen Primer on Alberta Budgets" - 3 Questions Every Albertan Should Ask Their Politicians in Advance of a Budget
CALGARY, Jan. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - The provincial government has announced the date of the next provincial budget - one that will be fraught with controversy and will set the direction of Alberta's fiscal future. Alberta is at a crossroads.
The School of Public Policy believes that the forthcoming budget will be one of the most important in Alberta's history - but it will be misunderstood by many Albertans for whom government budgeting is a mystery wrapped in political rhetoric.
Prof. Ron Kneebone has produced a "citizen primer" on the Albertan budget in order to shed light on how governments set budgets and to highlight the issues that Albertans should be concerned about. He also identifies three questions every Albertan should demand answers to from their politicians in advance of the upcoming budget.
The School of Public Policy will make the primer widely available to Albertans, but hopes media will take an interest in drawing attention to the challenges Kneebone hopes Albertans will pose to the government and opposition.
