Media Advisory - Registered Nurses, Health Care Workers Rally to Stop Cuts Coming to Temiskaming Hospital
NEW LISKEARD, ON, Dec. 11, 2014 /CNW/ - Registered nurses and health care workers from Temiskaming Hospital will take part in a rally on Friday, December 12 to raise public awareness of RN cuts and other job cuts coming to the hospital.
The hospital says it will cut 15 job positions, including six full-time registered nurses. Each RN position loss is the equivalent of 1,950 hours of RN care cut per year. This will increase the patient-to-nurse ratio and decrease the quality of patient care.
In addition to the RN cuts, the hospital plans to cut three registered practical nursing positions and replace them with personal support workers, and close the hospital cafeteria, leaving staff and families five kilometers away from access to food.
The rally will be held at 4:30 pm tomorrow in downtown New Liskeard. Another rally will follow in early January.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 nurse practitioners, registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
