Media Advisory - Peel board opens five new schools for the 2016-17 school year

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 2, 2016 /CNW/ - The Peel District School Board will launch the 2016-17 school year with the opening of two new schools and plans to open three more within the year. Sept. 6 will also be the first day back-to-school for approximately 153,000 Peel board students.

The following new schools will open on Sept. 6:

  • James Grieve Public School, located at 12175 Bramalea Rd. in Caledon, will serve students in kindergarten to grade 8. The school building was previously used as a temporary holding location for students.
  • Jean Augustine Secondary School, located at 500 Elbern Markell Dr. in Brampton, will serve students in grades 9 to 12, phasing in with grades 9 and 10. The new secondary school is the first in the world to be named for the Canadian social justice advocate and politician, Jean Augustine. Augustine has been recognized around the globe for her leadership and community involvement.

Three Brampton school buildings are also expected to open during the 2016-17 school year:  

  • Countryside Village Public School, kindergarten to grade 8, located at 40 Dolbyhill Dr.
  • McClure Public School, kindergarten to grade 8, phasing in with kindergarten to grade 7, located at 50 Parity Rd.
  • Tribune Drive Public School, kindergarten to grade 8, located at 30 Tribune Dr.

The Peel board is proud to serve approximately 153,000 students in kindergarten to grade 12.
