Media Advisory - Ontario Nurses Rally at Queen's Park Tomorrow: RNs call for more nurses, safe patient care

TORONTO, March 18, 2014 /CNW/ - More than 150 registered nurses – members of the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) – will rally at Queen's Park tomorrow at 12:15 to call for more nurses and safer patient care in the province.

ONA President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN, says the province has cut more than 1,000 RN positions since 2012, leaving Ontario with the second-worst RN-to-patient ratio in Canada. Just to close the gap of nursing care that patients in Ontario now face, the province would have to hire 17,500 more RNs.

ONA is in the midst of a public-awareness campaign to draw attention of the need to improve patient care, with television ads calling for more nurses airing across the province. The ads can be viewed at www.morenurses.ca.
