MEDIA ADVISORY - Ontario Nurses' Association Available for Reaction on Provincial Budget
TORONTO, April 20, 2015 /CNW/ - The Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) – the union representing 60,000 front-line registered nurses and allied health professionals as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates – is available for comment following the release of the provincial budget this Thursday at Queen's Park.
During pre-budget hearings, ONA leaders made presentations to the Standing Committee on Finance & Economic Affairs in a number of Ontario cities. The leaders provided examples of the impact that RN cuts in hospitals and other sectors are having on patient care.
ONA has advocated for an increase in hospital funding to end the RN cuts that have resulted in nearly one million hours of RN care being lost in Ontario hospitals this year alone.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care, the community, public health, clinics and industry.
