Media Advisory - OECD Review of the Toronto Region's Economic Competitiveness

TORONTO, Nov. 9 /CNW/ - The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will deliver its review that says the Toronto region must be more competitive. Journalists are invited to the presentation, to receive a copy of the review, and to speak with its authors.

In July, 2007, the governments of Canada, Ontario and Toronto commissioned the OECD to conduct an impartial review and analysis of Toronto region's current socio-economic trends and competitiveness and to suggest actions.

The Toronto region is home to 40 per cent of the nation's business headquarters, all five major Canadian banks, the world's seventh largest stock exchange and is responsible for almost 20 per cent of national GDP. It is also a major manufacturing hub and can draw upon the skills of one of the most ethnically diverse populations of any major OECD urban centre.

Angel Gurria, OECD Secretary-General, will present the review to Toronto Mayor David Miller. He will receive the report on behalf of the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto.
