MEDIA ADVISORY - Morneau Shepell to present new research on salary and other trends in human resources at annual breakfast event

Organizations in Atlantic Canada to focus on improving learning and development programs in the workplace for 2016

FREDERICTON, Sept. 18, 2015 /CNW/ - Morneau Shepell invites members of the media to attend a breakfast presentation of the national and regional findings of its annual survey of Trends in Human Resources.

According to the recently released survey, employers across Canada are expecting salaries to rise by an average of 2.5 per cent in 2016, which is down from the average 2.8 per cent salary increase expected for 2015.

Among various priorities for human resources leaders, provinces in the Atlantic region are focused on engagement and productivity for 2016. The majority (86 per cent) of organizations in Atlantic Canada identified "improving learning and development programs" as a priority for next year, which is well above the national average of 60 per cent. In addition, 73 per cent of organizations in the region will focus on improving workplace health and engagement, which is above the national average of 66 per cent.

Organizations in Atlantic Canada are also focusing on improving mental health in the workplace (68 per cent compared to 45 per cent nationally) and reducing short-term disability costs (50 per cent compared to 4 per cent nationally).

Industry experts at the seminar will present the new research in detail, including regional variances and current challenges and opportunities being faced by human resources leaders.

Media interviews can be arranged.
