Media Advisory - Media Lockup and News Conference - Release of Report on First Nations Representation on Ontario Juries by Independent Reviewer, The Honourable Frank Iacobucci, on February 26, 2013

TORONTO, Feb. 20, 2013 /CNW/ - The Independent Reviewer, The Honourable Frank Iacobucci, will table his report on First Nations Representation on Ontario Juries and hold a news conference on Tuesday, February 26^th, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Valhalla Inn, 1 Valhalla Inn Rd, Thunder Bay. Simultaneous media lockups in Thunder Bay and Toronto will precede the news conference.

A video connection between the Toronto and Thunder Bay lockup locations will allow those in the Toronto lockup to view the Independent Reviewer's remarks and to ask questions during the Q&A portion of the news conference.

About the Independent Reviewer

The Independent Reviewer, The Honourable Frank Iacobucci, was appointed on August 11, 2011 by the Attorney General of Ontario to examine, report, and offer recommendations regarding the process for inclusion of First Nation peoples living in reserve communities on the provincial jury roll from which potential jurors are selected for all jury trials and coroners' inquests. Media Lockup

The report will be made available when the media lockup commences at 9:15 a.m. A single copy of the report will be provided free of charge in the lockup.

All materials will be under embargo until released by the designated officials of the Independent Reviewer, following tabling of the Report at 10:30 a.m.

An official supporting the Independent Reviewer will be on hand at each of the two media lockup locations to answer questions on a background, not for attribution basis only. Audio recording or video recording with audio of these briefings for the purpose of broadcast is strictly prohibited.

News Conference Equipment Set-Up

Space will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Set-up of equipment and lines for recording the news conference will take place starting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013.

Embargo Procedures

Once the lockup has commenced, no one will be allowed to leave the room or contact their office until the embargo is lifted at 10:30 am.

Journalists will be required to sign an undertaking to respect the release arrangements and not to remove, release or communicate documents, materials or information, or other records of any nature whatsoever, to anyone in any manner (including the use of wireless communication devices such as wireless microphones, wireless modems and air cards, cellular phones and personal digital assistants) until they are released from embargo.

Wireless communication devices such as cellular phones, BlackBerries, personal digital assistants, two-way radios and/or any other removable wireless communication devices including modems, air cards and wireless microphones will not be allowed in the lockup area.

The undertaking stipulates that wireless communication devices must be turned in at the entrance to the briefing. Official supporting the Independent Reviewer will hold them until the embargo is lifted.

Media will be responsible for disabling any internal built-in wireless devices on their laptop, notebook and other portable computers. Those who fail to do so may be requested to turn in their computer.
