MONTRÉAL, May 4, 2017 /CNW/ - Leading members of the Greek-Canadian community in Montréal are organizing a Wine Tasting and Food Festival in support of The Canadian Initiative for Lesbos (CIL), and Greek NGO "The Smile of the Child" (http://www.hamogelo.gr/gr/en/home/).
The Festival will take place Saturday, May 6th from 14h00 and Sunday, May 7th from 13h00 at the Hellenic Community Centre located at 5757 Wilderton Avenue, Montréal, QC. Tickets are $25.00.
The official launch will be Saturday, May 6th at approximately 19:00 at which "Smile's" Founder and President Costa Yiannopoulos from Athens will speak.
The CIL (http://www.facebook.com/The-Canadian-Initiative-for-Lesvos-CIL-251817705266068) is being led by Montreal-based co-ordinators Zoi Batsis and Maria Fotopoulos and a broadly-based volunteer committee under the honorary patronage of Canada's former Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, Robert Peck.
Net proceeds from the fundraiser will assist "The Smile of the Child" in establishing a new group home for unaccompanied refugee minors detained in refugee camps on Lesbos, and children, both Greek and of non-Greek origin, removed or separated from abusive family environments. The new facility (http://www.youcaring.com/houseofcanada) will operate under the umbrella of "Smile's" Center of Direct Social Intervention on Lesbos and provide services such as a mobile intensive care medical unit for newborns.
