Montrealers are calling on Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante, Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen, and Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale to stop deportation proceedings against Lucy Francineth Granados. Lucy faces deportation on March 27th, before her application for permanent residency has been determined.
Lucy is a community organizer for the rights of undocumented migrants, a worker, and a single mother of three who has made Montreal her home for the last nine years. She is currently being detained in the Laval Detention Centre.
Solidarity Across Borders and the Immigrant Workers Centre are condemning the actions of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), who targeted Lucy after she attempted to regularize her status by filing an application for permanent residence on humanitarian and compassionate grounds in September 2017. Specifically, they are demanding an investigation into the actions of the CBSA agent who made a false representation in an attempt to entrap her in January of this year and accountability for the disproportionate force used by four CBSA agents during Lucy's arrest on March 20th.
