Media Advisory - GET LOUD for mental health and wellness across Canada

OTTAWA, April 29, 2016 /CNW/ - Next week is the 65th annual Mental Health Week, championed by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), and supported by the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) and mental health organizations across the country. Organizers are asking Canadians to GET LOUD and raise their voices to build community support and stop the discrimination and stigma that often accompany mental illness.

Each year, CMHA highlights the concerns and needs of a specific group. This year, the organization is taking a closer look at the mental health challenges faced by Canadian seniors — the fastest growing demographic in our country. The MHCC's Mental Health Indicators for Canada show that fewer seniors than adults or youth rate their mental health as very good or excellent, with one in four living with a mental health problem or illness.

GET LOUD activities will be held across the country, from May 2-8. Staff at the Ottawa MHCC offices will mark Mental Health Week with creative and fun team-building events to promote a mentally healthy workplace. Follow along online with @MHCC_.
