Media Advisory - G7 Oceans Inspiration Expo Opens to the Public

HALIFAX, Sept. 19, 2018 /CNW/ - The G7 Oceans Inspiration Expo will take place from 8:30am-6pm on September 20, 2018, at the Halifax Convention Centre, in parallel with the G7 Joint Ministerial Session on Healthy Oceans, Seas and Resilient Communities. Hosted by the Government of Canada in partnership with GLOBE Series and The Delphi Group, the Inspiration Expo will provide a forum for organizations and individuals to showcase what they're doing to address the issues of coastal resilience, offshore renewable energy, sustainable oceans and fisheries and ocean plastics and marine litter.
A free public event, the Oceans Inspiration Expo provides a unique opportunity to learn more about how we can protect our oceans.
Featured speakers
Alexandra Cousteau ̶ National Geographic Emerging Explorer, Filmmaker and globally recognized advocate on water issues. Time: 9:15am
Sylvia Earle ̶ This renowned oceanographer has led more than 50 expeditions worldwide, and set the record for the deepest solo untethered dive at 3,000 feet into the Pacific. Time Magazine's first Hero for the Planet, she served as chief scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and is an explorer-in-residence at the National Geographic Society. Panel dialogue featuring Gigi Brisson from Ocean Elders, Geoff Green from Oceans on Ice, and Josh Laughren from Oceana Canada. Time: 2:30pm

The Inspiration Expo opens at 8:30am on September 20 and features:
- Presentation Theatre with free programming all day
- 40 ocean-related exhibitors who are showcasing what is being done to combat ocean plastic and the latest in clean technology
- Art exhibition featuring ocean-themed paintings, photography, and mixed media
- Children's programming, including Youth Inspiration Hour, poster competitions, and "Mindshift" - an interactive play being staged by Halifax-based Adventure Earth Centre.
Oceans Youth Innovation Challenge Winner Announcement
The winners of the Oceans Youth Innovation Challenge, a G7 initiative for young people aged 18-25 in G7 countries, will be giving PechaKucha presentations on their proposals to address ocean deoxygenation and CO2 labelling and reduce plastic packaging.
Argyle Street Celebrates Oceans
Argyle Street will come alive from 5pm-9pm, featuring special Ocean Wise® menu features, There will be music, live art entertainment and ocean-related outdoor activities for the whole family.
