VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, Nov. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - Media representatives are invited to the departure of the next Commander of Joint Task Force Afghanistan Headquarters, Brigadier-General Daniel Ménard, on Saturday, November 7, 2009. Brigadier-General Ménard, who will take over from Brigadier-General Jonathan Vance, will leave with 125 other Canadian Forces members under his command for the next ten months.

9:30 pm to 10:10 pm: Meeting with Brigadier-General Daniel Ménard, his
soldiers and their families at Valcartier Garrison (possibility of
10:15 pm: Departure of military personnel for the airport aboard buses
(possibility of photos from a distance)
The Joint Task Force Afghanistan Headquarters unit, located at Kandahar Airfield, has two functions:
- In the Canadian Forces chain of command, it is the coordination link
between the units of Joint Task Force Afghanistan and Canadian
Expeditionary Force Command Headquarters in Ottawa. It is also
responsible for providing logistical and administrative support to the
units and personnel of Joint Task Force Afghanistan.
- For the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) chain of
command, it is the command and control headquarters of Task Force
Kandahar, the formation carrying out the ISAF mission in Kandahar
Province under ISAF Regional Command (South).
