Media Advisory - Countdown begins as VON PSWs prepare for strike next week
OWEN SOUND, ON, Dec. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - VON Personal Support Workers in Grey Bruce County are hoping the assistance of a mediator can help them reach a deal December 10th.
If their employer is unwilling to pay them a living wage, the 35 PSWs are prepared to walk a picket line beginning next week. OPSEU's PSWs deliver home care support in Grey Bruce Counties and have been in a strike position since November 28.
Ironically the VON itself had recommended that government remove wage restraint for these workers in 2012 and reduce the significant difference between what PSWs are paid in community versus institutional care.
OPSEU is hosting a media conference on Friday, December 6 at 2 pm in the Owen Sound Regional Office, 100-1717 2nd Ave. East.
Speakers include:
 Lucy Morton
 OPSEU regional board representative
 Brad Drake
 United Way/Grey Bruce Labour Council
 Rick Janson
Health policy analyst, editor of the OPSEU Diablogue
MPP Bill Walker will also be present to answer questions as will be members of the bargaining team.
