The Issue

Cannabis is the most commonly used illicit drug among Canadian youth, at a time when their brains are undergoing rapid and extensive development. These changes set the stage for later-life success, but early and regular use can have negative effects and can lead to future issues with mental health, brain function and addiction.

The Effects of Cannabis Use during Adolescence will increase the understanding of the effects of early and regular use of cannabis by adolescents and give teachers, healthcare providers and policy makers the opportunity to use the evidence in the report to help develop and employ more effective drug use prevention, intervention and treatment programs for youth.
