WINNIPEG, Feb. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Former Winnipeg Jets player and hockey great Thomas Steen will be joining the city's enthusiastic hockey fans to celebrate our country's favourite sport as part of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday February 11, 2012 at the Forks, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Forks will transform into a hockey zone for the day-long event with an Olympic-sized rink in front of Scotiabank Stage. Families can meet NHL Alumnus Thomas Steen, as well as Scoti the mascot, Patino from Pro Hockey Life, and the Jets' Mick E. Moose.
Winnipeggers are invited to cheer at the Family Pond Hockey tournament, where generations of four families, selected from the Riverpond Classic, will face off for an unforgettable series of games. The rink will also play host to the Newcomers Skating Program of Central Park, when new Canadians will be taking to the ice for their first hockey game ever with equipment provided by Scotiabank.
Fans can share their Jets' pride by heading to the Scotiabank Warming Zone to enter to win a pair of tickets and by watching the Winnipeg Jets face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 1:00 p.m. on the big screen at the Scotiabank Stage. Hockey fans can enjoy free skate sharpening courtesy of Pro Hockey Life as well as enjoying free coffee, donuts and delicious poutine.
