VANCOUVER, Oct. 13 /CNW/ - The BC Treaty Commission will make its recommendations for completing treaties at a news conference on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, in Victoria.
Chief Commissioner Sophie Pierre and Commissioners Robert Phillips, Jerry Lampert and Dave Haggard will report on the state of treaty negotiations and be available for questions.
The Treaty Commission will also report on the 2008 initiative, 'Common Table' - 2 weeks of fruitful talks among more than 60 First Nation communities and the governments of Canada and BC. The Common Table Report is being released 24 hours prior to the news conference to provide relevant background and context.
The Treaty Commission will also comment on how the proposed Recognition and Reconciliation Act that was rejected by First Nations may help treaty negotiations.
