MONTREAL, Oct. 15, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Mayor Denis Coderre joined hundreds of Montrealers in Philips' Square Sunday, October 15th 2017 before the annual Montreal Walks for Mental Health. Coderre offered words of support to the cause, assuring those persons who experience mental health issues and their loved ones that they "are not alone". Attendees enjoyed live music by singer songwriter Ian Kelly before departing on the symbolic 3km walk to raise awareness about mental health and reduce stigma.
The Walk is organized annually by The MONTREAL WALKS for Mental Health Foundation, a collaboration of health and community organizations whose mission is to increase public awareness about mental health, and eliminate stigma and discrimination towards people who live with a mental illness. The Foundation reported Sunday's walk a resounding success, "We had close to 1000 participants today and raised $25,000 for MWMH Foundation." In addition, through fundraising, the Montreal Walks for Mental Health Foundation was able to award five grants to organizations offering mental health services in Montreal.
