TORONTO, Sept. 3, 2026 /CNW/ -- Marine engineer Taras V., founder of Open Water Syndicate, has completed a solo, unsupported crossing of Lake Ontario. Covering 52.87 kilometers in 11 hours and 19 minutes standing aboard the OWS Expedition CX2, the transit establishes a new benchmark for self-powered, remote expedition watercraft.
No support vessel. No motor escort. One paddler, one production-prototype board, and eleven hours of open water.
This expedition served as the final validation for the CX2, following three prior unsupported team transits and a 110-kilometre circumnavigation of Mexico's Isla Espíritu Santo.
"A mediocre board fights you; a superior board disappears beneath you," says Taras V. "We didn't engineer the CX2 for recreation. We built it to solve the structural failures of commercial inflatables. Cheap boards are disposable--they end up in landfills after a season. The CX2 is built to serve you on the water for years. Performance is the ultimate sustainability."
Field Telemetry: Zero Degradation
Onboard GPS logged continuous performance across the 52.87 km transit:
- Glide Efficiency: Sustained 2.66 meters per paddle stroke.
- Operating Pace: Average speed of 4.7 km/h under shifting crosswinds.
- Structural Integrity: Zero performance degradation or hull flex recorded.
Marine-Grade Engineering
The 12'6" x 32" x 6" CX2 features:
- V-Hull Nose Geometry: Acts as a displacement keel for straight-line tracking.
- Dual-Chamber Air Architecture: Independent secondary buoyancy for redundant safety.
- High-Pressure Drop-Stitch: Delivers rigid-hull energy transfer with full packability.
