Manitoba Winner of Lallemand's Hometown Roots Contest Helps Support Local Community Centre

MONTREAL, Sept. 29, 2026 /CNW/ -- A $5,000 donation from Lallemand Plant Care will help support the Laurier Community Centre in Laurier, Man., thanks to Charlene Saquet, Manitoba winner of the 2026 Hometown Roots Contest.

"This donation will help keep the community centre open and in good shape, which is very exciting," says Saquet. "It's all volunteer-run, and the fundraisers the hall does go towards paying monthly bills, maintenance, and repairs. It's really hard to get extra money to put towards renovations."

Our farm has been in the family for three generations. We are hoping it will continue to the fourth generation and beyond. The kids are always excited to go for rides and they always ask lots of questions, which is a great way for them to start learning about the farm.

The donation will help the community centre move forward with its next renovation project, which includes exterior insulation and siding.

Saquet is a farmer, and her farm has been in the family for three generations. Her winning photo captures a moment in the field with her young son.

Launched in 2021, Lallemand's Hometown Roots Contest celebrates the deep connection to agriculture and rural life within communities across Canada and the U.S. Since its launch, the contest has recognized 34 winners and donated a total of $170,000 to local organizations across North America.

The 2026 contest ran from January 26 to July 13, with one $5,000 donation awarded in each of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Winners selected a local community organization or charity to receive the donation.
