VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, Sept. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - The military funeral for Major Yannick Pépin, deceased on September 6, 2009, in Afghanistan, will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:30 a.m., in Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc Chapel located on the Valcartier Garrison.
When: Tuesday, September 15, 2009 - From 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and
Wednesday, September 16, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (open to public)
Where: Sylvio Marceau Funeral Complex, located at 1460, Notre Dame Street
Citizens who wish to honour Major Pépin's memory are welcome to join the funeral procession which will travel successively on Notre-Dame street, Chauveau Blvd, and Henri IV highway to the Garrison chapel. The procession should leave the funeral home just after 11:00 a.m.
Major Yannick Pépin died on September 6, 2009 due to the explosion of an improvised explosive device in southern Afghanistan. Born in the Arthabaska borough (Province of Quebec), Major Pépin joined the Canadian Forces on October 13, 1999. At the age of 36, Yannick was serving with 5 Combat Engineer Regiment based in Valcartier. Dispatched on his second tour to Afghanistan, he left the country in March 2009 to fill a squadron commander position.
