Ministers Duncan and Bibeau highlight 46 new Canada Research Chairs
SHERBROOKE, QC, Jan. 16, 2019 /CNW/ - When our labs and classrooms look more like the Canada we see today, everyone benefits. Diverse perspectives bring new ideas and drive creativity in science and research, which lead to innovations that help grow the economy. The next generation of young researchers brings fresh thinking to scientific problem solving and discovery, which helps keep Canadian research at the forefront of discovery today and in the future.
Today, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, and the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development, highlighted significant investments in the Canada Research Chairs (CRC) Program to attract and retain some of the world's most accomplished and promising minds at institutions in Quebec. The Government of Canada is investing more than $39 million for 46 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs across Quebec.
Ministers Duncan and Bibeau joined new and renewed Chairs at Bishop's University to highlight the importance of fostering the diversity and creativity that lead to cutting-edge research. The event profiled Dr. Heather Lawford, Canada Research Chair in Youth Development. Bishop's University is one of 49 universities across Canada to receive CRC funding, as announced on November 13, 2018.
