Lougheed House Celebrates 125 Years Since its Construction: Free Anniversary Party Hosted by Matt Masters on July 23rd

CALGARY, June 22, 2016 /CNW/ - Put on your best frock or bow tie and party like it's 1891! Lougheed House is celebrating the 125th anniversary of its construction with a free public event on July 23^rd, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. A vibrant showcase of local arts and culture, the day includes comedians, historical talks, a performance by World Champion Fancy Dancer Craig First Rider, as well as musical performances by the Calgary Wind Symphony, the Calgary Opera, Lynn Olagundoye and Lucky Sonne. The event reflects the diversity and cultural vitality of the Beltline community where Lougheed House now stands.

Lougheed House, designed by James R. Bowes and constructed in 1891, will come alive with festivities. The Lougheed House Gardens will be brought back in time to their original use as a superb environment for entertaining. Guests can enjoy iced tea all day, along with tours, crafts and community booths. Cocktails and beverages will be available in the Speakeasy Lounge and culinary delights from The Restaurant at Lougheed House will be available for purchase.

The 125^th Anniversary Party is one of many events to happen throughout the year, marking an important milestone in Calgary's built heritage. The event is supported by the Department of Canadian Heritage Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program and the Calgary Foundation.  A long-time contributor to Calgary's cultural scene, local musician Matt Masters is delighted to take on the role of 125^th Anniversary Project Coordinator. Upcoming projects include artist residencies, collaborations with local festivals and more.

Lougheed House
Built in 1891 for James and Isabella Lougheed and their growing family, historic Lougheed House is a 14,000 square-foot sandstone prairie mansion with extensive gardens on 2.8 acres in Calgary's beltline community. One of the finest residences in Canada's northwest and the political and social hub of fast-growing Calgary until 1938, Lougheed House is now a National and Provincial Historic Site and Museum run by the Lougheed House Conservation Society (a not-for-profit organization). Subject to availability, historic interpreters are available to give guided tours. Self-guided and audio tours are always available.
