Local 183 Signs Contract to Build Eglinton LRT
TORONTO, Feb. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - LIUNA Local 183 is thrilled to announce it has entered into a contract to build the Toronto Transit Commission's new light rail transit line (LRT) across Eglinton Avenue in Toronto. The project is already underway and is expected to be completed in 2020. It will bring hundreds of good-paying jobs to the membership of Local 183.

Local 183 has signed a contract with Crosstown Obayashi Technicore Constructors to build the 52 km line that will run both above and below ground along Eglinton Avenue from Black Creek Drive to Kennedy Station. Between Laird and Keele streets the LRT will run underground. Local 183 is the leading construction union supplying skilled labour to tunnelling projects in the GTA and Southern Ontario; including the subway extension to York University and the Island Airport tunnel, both currently under construction.
LIUNA Local 183 is North America's largest construction union, representing over 40,000 members primarily in the Greater Toronto Area, with additional offices in Barrie and Cobourg. Members work in the construction industry including sewer and water main, residential, industrial, road construction, bridge building, pipeline, utilities and railroads.
