Loblaw Awards more than $250,000 to After-School Programs across Canada
Grants support local organizations that help kids develop healthy, active lifestyles after school
BRAMPTON, ON, June 27, 2012 /CNW/ - (TSX: L) To help kids in local communities get active and stay healthy, Loblaw Companies Limited (Loblaw) is pleased to announce that it has awarded more than $250,000 through its After-School Community grant program for 2012. Sixty-four organizations across Canada providing activities after school for kids from elementary school through high school will each receive grants of up to $5,000. The Loblaw Companies After-School Grant program was introduced in 2009 and to date has awarded $750,000 to hundreds of organizations.
The Loblaw Companies After-School Grant focuses on recreational programs that help young people improve their fitness and nutrition levels, connect to their community and develop skills that they will be able to use throughout their lives. The grants also provide opportunities for participation by children that may not otherwise have access to after school programs. These grants are part of the Company's commitment and focus on Healthy Active Kids.
"The Loblaw Companies After-School Grant is just one of the many ways that Loblaw makes a positive difference in local communities where we have stores," said Peggy Hornell, senior director, Community Investment, Loblaw Companies Limited. "With these grants we are acknowledging the great work organizations across Canada are doing to provide supportive and participatory environments after school for children of all ages."
Loblaw is dedicated to being active in communities at the local, regional and national levels and the Company views this as an integral component to the success of its business.
