Life-Saving Innovation Expo: Behind the Scenes at Sunnybrook

TORONTO , Oct. 29 /CNW/ - Have you ever wanted to experience what it takes to save the life of a trauma victim? Would you like to zap a tumour or inject a seed to cure cancer? Would you like to deliver multiple babies? How about lend your hand at building a human immune system from scratch?

Now you can through Sunnybrook's unique "Life-Saving Innovation" Expo, an impressive interactive multi-media experience that takes you behind the scenes of one of Canada's most dynamic and innovative hospitals.

    
    Meet people whose lives were saved at Sunnybrook such as:

    -   Stroke survivor Candace Allman, who was rushed to Sunnybrook after
        her colleagues noticed her jumbled speech as she slumped over in her
        chair. Candace had complete paralysis on the left side of her body.
        Sunnybrook's stroke team stepped in to administer a clot-busting drug
        which was successful in re-opening a major blockage in an artery of
        the brain, allowing normal blood flow to be restored. She recovered
        completely, and has returned to her usual activities at home and at
        work.

    -   Mark and Krystyna McNulty's first daughter, Alexandra, passed away
        before she could be born. Her subsequent two pregnancies were high
        risk and the Women & Babies team at Sunnybrook monitored her care
        closely and helped her deliver two healthy girls.
    

The health care needs of our community and Ontario are growing. Sunnybrook needs more space, more state-of-the-art technology, and must continue to attract and retain the country's best medical minds. To meet these needs, Sunnybrook will launch the Campaign for Sunnybrook, a $470-million fundraising effort designed to inspire the people of Toronto and Ontario to invest in the innovations that happen each day at Sunnybrook.

As part of the launch celebration, you are invited to see, hear, touch and feel the innovative discoveries that are inventing the future of health care, and meet patients whose lives were saved at Sunnybrook.
