Liberals walk off the job, shut down Committee holding hearings on HST

TORONTO, Dec. 8 /CNW/ - McGuinty Liberals shut out Ontarians concerned about the HST last night when they walked off their jobs on a Legislative Committee - forcing proceedings to stop.

"Women and men came from all over Ontario to have their voices heard on the HST and this government just walked away from them," said NDP Finance Critic Michael Prue. "The McGuinty Liberals have become so arrogant they don't even pretend to listen anymore."

Last night, the Legislative Committee holding public hearings and making amendments to harmonized sales tax legislation was shut down when Liberal MPPs on the Committee walked off the job and refused to return. The Committee had to be shut down due to lack of members. It was supposed to report on their findings to the Legislature today - but now will miss their deadline and have all of their work ignored, unless the government grants them more time.

"Last night the McGuinty Liberals told seniors, small-business owners, tenants, First Nations and all people in this province they just don't care what they think," said Prue.

Prue is calling on the McGuinty Government to grant the committee more time to continue their work and consult with Ontarians about the HST.
