TORONTO, Jan. 5, 2018 /CNW/ - In Solidarity with the Iranian people's uprising for democracy and freedom, a group of Iranian-Canadians have sent a letter to Prime Minister Trudeau and have asked him to personally speak out in support of the Iranian people. The letter states that "Canada has a long history of defending democratic movements with the support of the anti-apartheid resistance in South Africa as a notable example. Now it is time that Canada stood firm in support of the Iranian people."
The letter also requests that Canada hold the Iranian government accountable to the international community for violence against the protestors.
In solidarity with the protestors, there is a gathering organized on Sunday, January 7, 2018, from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the North York Civic Centre Council Chambers, in Toronto. All media are invited and encouraged to attend.
