Leclerc Group acquires a second facility in Kingsport, Tennessee

SAINT-AUGUSTIN-DE-DESMAURES, QC, Jan. 24, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Leclerc Group Inc. is pleased to announce the acquisition of a second 110,000 sq. ft. facility in Kingsport, Tennessee. The company established its first Kingsport plant in 2010.

"This acquisition fits our business vision and development strategy. The facility will only produce certified gluten-free products to meet special customer needs," said Denis Leclerc, President of Leclerc Group.

The recently acquired seventh plant—complete with an all-new production line to make gluten-free bars—will accelerate Biscuit Leclerc's development and build on its reputation as an innovator. Leclerc Group will invest nearly $50 million over a five-year period in this latest facility, which will generate nearly one hundred jobs over the next three years.

This acquisition has high growth potential that should enable Leclerc Group to boost sales from nearly $440 million in 2016 to $525 million by the end of 2017.

Leclerc Group made a number of investments and created jobs in its other plants in 2016, including major investments at its François Leclerc Industrial Park facilities in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures that saw over one hundred jobs created.

The company also expanded its existing plant in Hawkesbury, Ontario, by 80,000 sq. ft. and hired twenty more employees.

In today's climate, the environment is one of Leclerc Group's main concerns. "We have put together a team to look into the matter and design the best possible environmental plan for both our Canadian and U.S. facilities. We want to do our part and commit to sustainable development in order to minimize our ecological footprint," said Leclerc.

The company has worked hard to develop a management system targeting reductions and improvements in water consumption, residual material generation, energy consumption, and packaging design.

A few examples:

All plants:

  • The amount of material used in corrugated cardboard boxes has been significantly reduced
  • Energy-efficient lighting and motion sensors are being used

Facilities at the François Leclerc Industrial Park in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures:

  • Use geothermal energy in their warehouses
  • Recover energy to preheat cleaning water

Facility in Phoenix, Arizona:

  • 1,782 solar panels have been installed to power production

Leclerc Group was founded in 1905 by François Leclerc and has grown remarkably in the last 30 years into a company with nearly 930 employees, close to $440 million in revenue, and seven ultramodern plants in Canada and the U.S., with locations in Quebec City, Quebec (two plants); Hawkesbury, Ontario; Montgomery, Pennsylvania; Kingsport, Tennessee; and Phoenix, Arizona.  Leclerc Group is headquartered near Quebec City, Quebec, in the François Leclerc Industrial Park in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures. The company specializes in cookies and snack bars, and exports to over twenty countries. Leclerc is known as an innovative company attuned to the tastes and needs of informed customers who care about the food they eat and like to treat themselves to life's pleasures.
