Nominated For Two Prix Gémeaux
TORONTO, June 18, 2015 /CNW/ - Competing with large-scale productions from Quebec, the docu-fiction series Le Rêve de Champlain has been nominated for two Prix Gémeaux: Best Program or Series: Docufiction and Best Digital Production (Website and/or Mobile Application) for a Program or Series: Documentary.
"We are more than honoured to see Le Rêve de Champlain and our youth programs be nominated in such categories. With projects of the scale of Champlain's, we wanted to highlight the long and rich history of French presence in Ontario, which started 400 years ago thanks to Samuel de Champlain," said Glenn O'Farrell, President and CEO of Groupe Média TFO. "I especially want to recognize the work of Marie-Pierre Gariepy, Michel St-Cyr and Marc Beaudet. I also wish to congratulate the Web Television Content team at TFO, and all our production partners, who continue to produce innovative, high-quality educational content."
Le Rêve de Champlain was inspired by Pulitzer-Prize winning author's David Hackett Fischer's bestselling book. The innovative format of the series combined dramatic scenes – starring popular actor Maxime Le Flaguais as Champlain – with interviews and reports hosted by renowned journalist and host Marie-Louise Arsenault. The series was directed by Martin Cadotte and produced by Slalom and the Fair-Play Group. It was accompanied by fascinating games and educational applications produced by Turbulent to celebrate that remarkable era.
With a total of 15 nominations, including 5 for Subito Texto, the youth programming segment has truly distinguished itself this year for TFO. Shows like Subito Texto; Jam; Raphaël, citoyen du monde; C'est wow; Motel Monstre and Les Hipaloulas are nominated in four distinct categories: "Shows"; "Performance"; "Craft"; and "Digital Media". In adult programming, programs like Arrière-Scène are nominated in the Best Editing: Public Affairs, Documentary Series and Best Visual Research: all categories.
Winners will be announced September 18 and 20, during the 30th Gala des Prix Gémeaux in Montréal.
