LCBO TO OPEN NEW FULL-SERVICE STORE AT PARKWAY PLAZA IN WINDSOR IN LATE 2011
TORONTO, Dec. 17 /CNW/ - Minister of Finance and Windsor-Tecumseh MPP the Honourable Dwight Duncan joined LCBO President and CEO Bob Peter today to officially re-open the LCBO Parkway Plaza store at 7201 Tecumseh Road East and announce plans to open a new full-service LCBO store at the same shopping centre late next year.
"The new store will replace this current location and will significantly increase product selection and service in the area," said Duncan. "It will offer more shopping space, more products and create jobs during the construction of the new store."
The new store, which will replace the current Parkway Plaza store, will have 8,000 square feet of shopping space - 2,000 square feet more than the current location. It will also offer almost 2,800 products, including a Vintages fine wine and premium spirits section with 300 to 500 products. The current location offers 2,100 products in total, including about 300 Vintages selections.
The eye-catching Best of Ontario section will prominently showcase some 200 Ontario VQA wines, including the largest selection of Lake Erie North Shore and Pelee Island wines to be found anywhere. The wines will be displayed by grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and more. This innovative approach to displaying products has proven popular with customers in Best of Ontario displays at LCBO stores in St. Catharines and Oakville.
"Customer research shows us that the population of this area is projected to grow by 10 per cent in the next 10 years," notes Peter. "This store is designed to meet the needs of that growing customer base. With its wide range of products and services, this store will enhance LCBO service in the Windsor area and appeal to U.S. shoppers as well."
Minister Duncan also noted that new and improved LCBO stores not only increase customer satisfaction but they have helped the LCBO deliver 16 consecutive record dividends to the province, including an all-time high $1.41 billion dividend in fiscal 2009-10.
The new store will also have large chilled sections for beers and ready-to-drink cocktails and coolers, mixed-drink displays, a portable tasting counter and a gift section. All staff will have product knowledge and responsible service training.
"Well-trained LCBO staff play an important role in keeping alcohol out of the hands of minors and intoxicated individuals who might drink and drive," noted Peter. "Last year LCBO employees challenged over 2.6 million individuals for reasons of age and intoxication and refused service to 155,000 - 82 per cent for age-related reasons."
