TORONTO, Jan. 25, 2012 /CNW/ - Starting January 29, the public can help support Parent Action on Drugs (PAD) by making a donation at any of the more than 620 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for PAD will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until February 25, 2012.
Parent Action on Drugs has been a leader in providing Ontario teens with relevant information about alcohol for over 25 years. PAD does this by working directly with youth to develop the kind of programs and resources that are meaningful to them and will make a difference in their lives. Donations from LCBO customers and employees will help PAD create lively materials that focus on the information teens need to know about alcohol and also let parents know how they can be prepared to deal with the issue of alcohol and teens.
"We appreciate the support we receive from LCBO, its employees and especially its customers. LCBO's province-wide store network provides us with a unique opportunity to raise public awareness about our work in alcohol education and funds to carry out our work and make a difference with youth," says Diane Buhler, Executive Director of Parent Action on Drugs.
"LCBO is pleased to partner with Parent Action on Drugs and provide support to a variety of worthy causes," says LCBO President and CEO Bob Peter. "Generous LCBO customers and staff improve the lives of countless Ontarians and help communities throughout the province."
PAD is one of 28 provincial, as well as numerous local charities, that will benefit from LCBO's province-wide donation box program in 2012. In 2010, LCBO raised a total of $5.4 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $4.8 million was raised through in-store fundraising. In addition, LCBO's annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.55 billion in fiscal 2010-11, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.
PAD thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store from January 29 to February 25, 2012.
