TORONTO, May 17, 2012 /CNW/ - Make your Victoria Day long weekend and summer entertaining safer by adopting simple responsible hosting tips available from LCBO. The "Deflate the Elephant" education campaign encourages us all to plan ahead and speak up to help prevent friends from drinking and driving.
Being a responsible host means creating a safe environment for our guests. Always plan ahead to help avoid alcohol-related issues, make responsible choices and get home safely. Find the top 10 tips for being a great host at www.deflatetheelephant.com/host_with_the_most.html.
"With the holiday long weekend and warmer weather approaching, we encourage everyone to plan ahead, travel safely and to never drink and drive or boat," says LCBO President & CEO Bob Peter. "We offer a variety of online tools and LCBO store staff can provide practical responsible hosting advice to help you plan get-togethers that will be memorable for all the right reasons."
Part of being a responsible host is measuring drinks for guests instead of running an open bar. Visitors to the www.deflatetheelephant.com website can hone their bartending skills and master the perfect pour by taking the "Home Bartending Challenge". This interactive tool teaches the perfect pour for wine, beer, spirits and coolers. Users can earn "Pour Master" badges and share results with friends on Facebook or Twitter.
The website features more than 50 refreshing, alcohol-free Mocktail recipes and recipe demonstration videos. It also offers interactive hosting simulations, entertaining checklists, seasonal safety tips, plus a link to the free iPhone Speak Up! app.
If you are on Facebook, visit the Deflate the Elephant page (www.facebook.com/deflatetheelephant) to learn how to make a delicious, alcohol-free Mocktail for summer celebrations in a video featuring TV's The Cocktail Deeva Dee Brun, plus share your own responsible hosting tips.
Last year, LCBO retail staff challenged 6.3 million individuals for failing to produce valid ID, appearing intoxicated or attempting to purchase for a minor or an impaired individual. Service was refused to more than 290,000 individuals, 84 per cent for reasons of age.
LCBO reminds customers to bring a reusable bag and take empty beverage alcohol containers (large and small glass bottles, PET plastic, Tetra Pak cartons, bag-in-box and cans) to The Beer Store for a full deposit refund.
