TORONTO, June 18, 2012 /CNW/ - Why not "LASH OUT" against drunk driving and have fun at the same time by decorating your vehicle with some bling? Celebrate the first day of summer at the Emergency Lash Bash in Forest Hill Village!
Join a new movement to eradicate drunk driving, which targets new drivers aged 16—21. The Lash Bash is affiliated with SADD and is selling decorative eyelashes that can be applied to your vehicle's headlights. The goal is to reduce significantly alcohol-related accidents, which account for almost 25% of all fatalities on Ontario's roads.
Because drinking and driving deaths triple during the summer months, Lash Bash founder and President April Young chose the first day of summer to launch the campaign, "Rather than sending a message out with only a traditional bumper sticker, applying eyelashes to vehicles' headlights captivates attention and appeals to people. They remind adolescents not to get in a car with someone who's drinking no matter how cute or popular the driver may be. As well, parents whose cars "wear" eyelashes convey a positive reminder to their children not to drink and drive and initiates a dialogue between them."
Lash Bash organizers are teaming up with Forest Hill Village merchants and Magen Brothers Entertainment to host the event. Specially trained "auto estheticians" will be available to apply the eyelashes to your headlights Wednesday, June 20th starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Forest Hill Village (on Spadina Ave. just north of St. Clair). The eyelashes are easy to remove and to reapply yourself, if necessary, and do not damage the vehicle. Various awareness products will also be available as well as fun activities such as a cotton candy and a mechanical bull.
While Ontario has come a long way, impaired driving remains a serious problem and continues to be one of the province's most significant road safety issues. This is why Lash Bash organizers consider it an Emergency situation: Their goal is to take action now and their hope is to see their efforts help to decrease the incidence of drinking and driving immediately. By "LASHING OUT" your vehicle you send a message that is a visible reminder to other drivers not to drink and drive.
During the past decade, more than 2 000 lives have been lost and more than 50 000 people have sustained injuries in collisions involving a driver who is drinking. Drinking and driving hurts everyone -- through deaths, injuries and personal tragedies. It also hurts our economy with added costs for health care, emergency response and property damage. The financial cost to society of drinking and driving is estimated to be at least $3 billion annually.
So why not join the movement and "Lash Out"!
