Nearly $300,000 in financial assistance for the Municipality of Lac-Bouchette's project
LAC-BOUCHETTE, QC, Aug. 1, 2017 /CNW/ - [Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)] - Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. The Government of Canada is proud to invest in projects which, like the project of the Municipality of Lac-Bouchette, contribute to the strength and vitality of all regions in the country.
The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announced that the Municipality of Lac-Bouchette (website in French only) would receive $297,368 in financial assistance, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, to renovate the municipal arena.
Located in the Domaine-du-Roy regional county municipality, the arena has been under the ownership of the Municipality of Lac-Bouchette since 1985. Funding awarded under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) will be used to replace the boards, glass and lighting, repair the foundation and stands, and replace the protective netting and scoreboard.
"The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program provides families with suitable cultural, recreational and sports facilities. I am pleased that Lac-Bouchette residents will be able to benefit from a safer arena that is better adapted to their needs."
The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie
"The Government of Canada supports projects by organizations which, like the project of the Municipality of Lac-Bouchette, mobilize and unite our communities. Community and recreational infrastructure such as the Lac-Bouchette arena are prime gathering places. Today, as it was 150 years ago, openness helps build strong communities."
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED
"The Municipality of Lac-Bouchette is pleased to see the Government of Canada supporting the development of small communities. Upgrading our facilities will make things easier for our volunteers who operate them, as well as help our young people and residents improve their conditions through healthy lifestyle habits including physical exercise. Thank you."
Ghislaine M.-Hudon, Mayor of Lac-Bouchette
- Since its creation in 2015, CIP150 has provided almost $13M in funding for over 450 projects that support the vitality of Quebec communities.
- CED is one of six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
