Kurt Ostlund returns for all-new episodes of YTV and Disney XD's 'Mr. Young'
LOS ANGELES, March 20, 2013 /CNW/ - Vancouver actor Kurt Ostlund, who plays Slab on the half-hour Canadian comedy TV series Mr. Young, is starring in five brand new upcoming episodes of the series that are expected to feature some unexpected surprises. The episodes are currently filming and will advance the storyline of season three. Broadcast times and dates are forthcoming.
"There's quite a bit of change to the character dynamics," Ostlund said. "I think the fans are going to be pleasantly surprised."
The half-hour show is a multi-camera sitcom taped in front of a live studio audience in Vancouver. It is broadcast worldwide in more than 30 countries including on Disney XD in the US, on YTV in Canada and on Cartoon Network in Latin America.
Brendan Meyer stars as Adam Young, a wunderkind who graduated college at 14, then returned to his high school as a science teacher. Also starring are Matreya Fedor, Gig Morton, Emily Tennant and Milo Shandel. The show was created by producer Dan Signer (The Suite Life on Deck, A.N.T. Farm) and first premiered in 2011 on YTV.
Ostlund has played Slab in 63 episodes from 2010 to 2013. The multi-dimensional character has always been evolving from his inception into the series, which has both challenged and displayed Ostlund's outstanding acting talents.
"He's sort of a jack of all trades," Ostlund said. "He starts out as being the bully, then he joins the friend group more or less. He kind of switches roles. Sometimes he's the antagonist and sometimes he's one of the gang."
Ostlund's acting has enhanced Slab's character portrayal and taken the role to a place not originally envisioned by the show's producers.
"The character wasn't going to be fleshed out as they first made it," Ostlund said. "He was originally just the bad guy. Now they're doing way more with it. When you play an antagonist, you get to make a lot more choices. When you're playing a regular protagonist, you're usually a straight, one-note character."
Ostlund previously played the recurring role of Big Joe on the Cartoon Network series, Level Up. He acted in the WGA Award winning Disney TV movie Girl Vs. Monster and in Nickelodeon's series, The Troop. He's represented by Maureen Goodwill of Webster Talent Management.
