VARENNES, QC, March 21, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Further to a «titanium tetrachloride» (TiCl4) leak that occurred in the chloride process unit of its Varennes plant today, at approximately 10:00 am, Kronos Canada announces that the leak is presently stopped and the situation is under control.
Kronos Canada estimates the total amount of titanium tetrachloride spilled in the production unit to approximatively three (3) cubic meters. There is no injury and nobody has been affected within the facility.
Kronos Canada has implemented all usual environmental emergency and safety rules and procedures to manage the situation. The company is working in cooperation with the environmental and municipal authorities, to take all appropriate measures to protect the population and the environment. Some citizens living in the area have been temporarily evacuated by the authorities.
