VANCOUVER, Feb. 20, 2013 /CNW/ - Kombat Copper Inc. (the "Company") (TSX.V: KBT) is pleased to report high grade copper and silver results from its diamond drill core re-sampling program from the historic Asis Far West ("AFW") mineralised zone in Namibia. The best result to date is from diamond drill hole AW101A returning 10 meters of 8% copper and 124 g/t silver, including 6 meters of 12.98% copper and 205 g/t silver and 1 meter of 29.7% copper and 457 g/t silver. The table below lists the balance of significant assays and the attached diagram shows the location of the samples within the AFW zone and their proximity to the exploration shaft.

The AFW zone was the primary copper and silver exploration target when the Kombat Mine was closed in early 2008. Deep diamond drilling programs carried out from surface had defined a series of mineralised blocks up to 900 metres below the surface and 1.5 km along strike from the main Kombat mine workings representing the western edge of the continuation of the main Kombat mineralized zone. A modern exploration and production shaft - the AFW shaft - was sunk at a cost of ~$USD30 million to a depth of 800 metres and was commissioned in 2006 to access mineralised intersections defined by others and provide a platform for continuing exploration underground in order to economically expand and build on the mineralised blocks.

Overall, the new certified copper assay values are approximately 20% lower than the historic uncertified copper assay values prepared by the mine during operation with some outliers higher and some lower occurring probably as a result of the high grade nature of the core. Silver assays had a closer correlation than the copper assays which were both closer than the lead correlations.
Lead values in the AFW zone are low when compared to the more galena rich ore found in the Asis West and more eastern deposits. The Company has also completed initial drilling in the shallow lead-rich "lead shell" which is located at surface approximately 3km to the east of AFW on the eastern edge of the deposit. Results from this program will be released once the entire laboratory analysis has been received and Company geologists have completed their review.
Sampling and Analytical Method
The Company located several of the diamond drill holes from the historic AFW drilling and with as much care as possible, made every attempt to duplicate the original sampling. The reader is cautioned that all widths reported are "drill widths" and not "true widths." All core from the historic AFW holes was quartered on site by means of a core saw. One hundred seventeen (117) samples of mineralized sections of this quarter core totaling 102.70 metres were sent for analysis to confirm original assays. Following standard practices, Company geologists inserted a standard and blank in every batch of twenty samples. The samples were submitted to Bureau Veritas ("BV") laboratory in Swakopmund, Namibia, an ISO 17025 certified laboratory in late Q4, 2012 and analyzed for 28 elements by a combination of MS-ICP and OES-ICP.
The laboratory protocol involves a grinding/pulverizing stage that ensures 85% of the material will pass through a 75 micron sieve. Following this, a 0.15 gram sample is subjected to mixed acid (total) digestion and then analyzed for Cu, Pb, Zn and Ag along with 24 other elements by a combination of ICP-MS and OES-MS. The laboratory inserts internal standards and blanks along with duplicates with a blank at the beginning of a run and thereafter every 90 samples to ensure 1 to 2 internal standards and 1 to 2 duplicates every 30 samples.
Mr. Colin Russell, P.Geo., the Qualified Person as defined by National Instrument 43-101, is responsible for the design of the program, and all exploration work on the Kombat Project will be done under his supervision. Mr. Russell has read and approved the technical content of this news release.
