National Survey Shows Education Strongest Defence Against Bed Bugs
TORONTO, Sept. 24 /CNW/ - To win the war against bed bugs, Abell Pest Control has launched Canada's first, free comprehensive education program to help businesses and homeowners prevent bed bug infestations.
"We're offering people something they can do right now to protect themselves against this growing nuisance," said John Abell, President of Abell Pest Control. "Being able to spot the tell tale signs of bed bugs is the best way of preventing their spread through your home, hotel, hospital, or any other business."
A new national survey released today by COMPAS Research shows 92 per cent of industry experts believe that public training to identify and monitor bed bug infestation is crucial in controlling and eliminating bed bugs. The survey also found that 91 per cent of those questioned believe staff training for businesses is critical to keeping bed bug populations in check.
"Staff members need to know what to look for and how to respond," added Abell. "A single adult bed bug can turn into 1,000 adults in about two months. Quick identification and action by trained staff will resolve a small problem before it turns into a full-blown infestation."
Abell Pest Control is the only pest control provider in Canada to offer free online training for businesses and homeowners. It's practical knowledge that could save businesses their reputation, and provide the public with peace of mind.
"As the number of reported cases of bed bugs rises so does the fear and worry," said Brett MacKillop, Vice President of Abell Pest Control. "Our training and education program gives people the tools to fight bed bugs so they can sleep at night."
The national survey of 119 front line pest control experts was conducted by COMPAS Research on behalf of Abell on September 16 and 17, 2010. The poll is considered accurate to within approximately 9 percentage points 19 times out of 20.
