Kinark takes aim at bullying with Children's Mental Health Week video and photo contest

MARKHAM, ON, May 8, 2012 /CNW/ - Kinark Child and Family Services is stopping the stigma and starting a conversation about Children's Mental Health with Facebook photo and video contests during Children's Mental Health Week (CMHW) May 6 to 12.

From now through to May 11, Facebook users can enter the 'Green Ribbon Photo Contest,' by submitting a creative photo utilizing the green ribbon, which represents Children's Mental Health Week across North America.

The 'Speaking Out Against Bullying' video contest encourages entrants to create and post videos that deliver an anti-bullying message through spoken word, storytelling, poetry, music, or acting performance.

Both contests are running now through to May 11, and voting continues until May 18. Voting takes place directly on Facebook and prizes include a Samsung MV800 digital camera and a 32 GB Sony S1 tablet with WiFi. Information can be found on the Kinark website and all entries can be found on the Kinark Facebook page.

WHEN:   Now through to May 12, 2012
WHERE: The Wall, Kinark Child and Family Services Facebook Page.
WHY:   To increase conversation with the intention of eliminating the stigma surrounding  child and youth mental health, to promote awareness for Children's Mental Health Week, and to reach parents and youth in a unique and innovative way through social media.

The colour green has been synonymous with mental health since the early 1900s. In recent years, the green ribbon has been adopted by children's mental health agencies across North America in an effort to break down the barriers which prevent children, youth and families from seeking help. Help promote Children's Mental Health Week by proudly displaying the green ribbon on your clothing or social media networks.
