Minister Bains announces the reappointment of Kathy Milsom for a three-year term
OTTAWA, Nov. 14, 2017 /CNW/ - The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, today announced the reappointment of Kathy Milsom to the Governing Council of the Standards Council of Canada, a Crown corporation that oversees Canada's national standardization network.
Kathy Milsom previously served as chair of the Standards Council of Canada's Governing Council from April 2013 to April 2016. Throughout her career, she has held various positions in both private and public sector organizations. Kathy Milsom is the President and CEO of Toronto Community Housing Corporation. She also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority and as the chair of its Risk Oversight Committee. Recently, she was also a senior fellow of the Canada School of Public Service, delivering the school's Crown corporation director orientation program.
Kathy Milsom holds a Bachelor of Applied Science and Engineering from the University of Toronto and is certified through the Institute of Corporate Directors' Directors Education Program. In 2017, she was inducted into the University of Toronto's Engineering Hall of Distinction.
The Government of Canada's appointment process is based on openness and transparency to ensure that highly qualified candidates who reflect Canada's diversity, including gender balance, are appointed.

- The Standards Council of Canada's Governing Council is appointed by the Government of Canada and reports to Parliament through the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
- The Governing Council is composed of up to 13 members who represent a broad spectrum of stakeholder interests. Members review, approve and advise the Standards Council on its strategic direction.
