Kal Dosanjh Vows to Fight Charges as Questions Arise Over VPD's Internal Probe

Long-serving Vancouver police officer denies wrongdoing as counsel raises concerns about investigative independence

VANCOUVER, BC, Sept. 8, 2026 /CNW/ -- Kalwinder "Kal" Dosanjh has denied the criminal allegations against him and says he will fully defend himself as the case moves before the courts.

Dosanjh, a 26-year member of the Vancouver Police Department, was arrested last week following a lengthy investigation conducted by VPD investigators.

His lawyer, Joven Narwal, KC, said the case now moves into an independent judicial process where the evidence and the integrity of the investigation can be tested.

Narwal also raised concerns about the decision to have VPD investigate one of its own long-serving members rather than refer the matter to an outside police agency.

"For nearly three decades, Kal Dosanjh has served this province, in uniform and in the community.

"Outside policing, he has devoted thousands of hours to young people across British Columbia, helping steer them away from drugs, gangs and violence through sport, mentorship and education.

"Last week, the institution Mr. Dosanjh has served for his entire professional life revealed that it had been investigating him through its own investigators.

"That raises legitimate concerns about investigative independence, objectivity and the safeguards used when a police department investigates one of its own members, particularly in a case the department itself has framed as a matter of public trust.

"Mr. Dosanjh unequivocally denies any wrongdoing. He is presumed innocent, and that presumption must be respected regardless of the prominence of the allegations or the manner in which the charges were announced.

"This matter now moves into an open and independent court process where the evidence, the allegations and the conduct of the investigation can be properly tested.

"Mr. Dosanjh has confidence in the justice system and looks forward to defending himself fully."
