Participation in Local Build Day Helps Provide Affordable Housing
TORONTO, July 24, 2015 /CNW/ -- The Just Energy Foundation is proud to team up with Habitat for Humanity in support of a local Build Day project. Just Energy staff members volunteered in the construction to help build a safe and suitable home for a local family-in-need in the community of Brampton, Ontario.
Habitat homes help families avoid making impossible choices between rent and other basic necessities by providing them with an affordable home. This enables partner families to ensure other important needs are met including childcare, transportation, groceries, medical and dental expenses, clothing, furniture, and more.
Just Energy has also donated refurbished Smartstat thermostats to Habitat's ReStore, a retail facility that offers access to high-quality donated building supplies, home furnishing, appliances, and decor at lower cost. The Just Energy Smartstats promote greater household energy efficiency and reduced energy costs for homeowners. Funds generated at Restore outlets are used to fund Habitat homebuilding projects.
"We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Habitat for Humanity for this Build Day," says Deb Merril, Just Energy's co-Chief Executive Officer. "Everyone should have access to basic human essentials, especially affordable housing. As a company, we are committed to doing our part to support communities-in-need within our operating markets. Not only is it a priority for us as a company, our staff members also have strong ties to their communities and share our belief in giving back, strongly reflecting our culture of leading change through responsibility and action."
Just Energy will participate in a second Habitat for Humanity Build Day this coming Fall in Houston, Texas.
With several construction sites across Canada and together with Habitat for Humanity International, the organization has built, rehabilitated, repaired or improved more than 600,000 houses worldwide for more than three million people.
