Journey to make a difference
7 days, 260km, 25,000 kids
TORONTO, June 3, 2014 /CNW/ - When parents are incarcerated, their innocent children are left vulnerable and face a myriad of challenges alone. On Saturday June 7th, Jessica Reid, the Founder of F.E.A.T. for Children will begin a seven day, 260 kilometer, walkathon to increase awareness of the need to support these at-risk children and raise money.
Starting at Ryerson University in Toronto, Reid will walk over 35 kilometers each day arriving at Collins Bay Institution in Kingston on Father's Day. Reid hopes her efforts will assist F.E.A.T. in purchasing a new bus. The bus is vital to F.E.A.T.'s After School Program, Mentorship Project, Empowerment Retreats and Family Visitation Program which optimize the outcomes of children affected by parental imprisonment.
"With the support of our community, we empower these at-risk children by providing supportive programming, teaching healthy coping strategies, and creating opportunities for success. By supporting our children, we can build brighter futures, break the cycle of intergenerational crime and strengthen our community," Reid says.
