James Maddox joins Avison Young in West Los Angeles
Industry leader to head real estate firm's advisory
and consulting services in Southern California
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8, 2014 /CNW/ - Christopher Cooper, Avison Young Principal and Managing Director of the company's Southern California region, announced today that James Maddox has joined the firm in West Los Angeles.
Effective immediately, Maddox becomes a Principal. He will lead Avison Young's real estate consulting and advisory services in Southern California while specializing in strategic advisory and capital markets solutions for major real estate owners, developers and investors. For the past six years, he was Managing Director of Real Estate for Kibel Green Inc., based in Santa Monica.

At Avison Young, Maddox and his team will provide hands-on strategic leadership to help clients tackle major challenges that have significant financial consequences, such as future business transition and succession planning; recapitalizations, liquidity events, financing for major projects or acquisitions; financial restructuring and bankruptcy; and resolving partnership, family and lender conflicts and litigation.
Maddox brings 30 years of real estate and corporate financing experience to Avison Young. His expertise spans all types of financing, from senior debt to mezzanine to equity, as well as most types of commercial and residential properties, in both healthy and distressed markets. While at Kibel Green, a highly regarded financial advisory and consulting firm specializing in corporate turnarounds and restructuring, Maddox led dozens of financial advisory engagements involving more than $2.3 billion of commercial and residential real estate. During his career, he has also provided expert witness testimony and litigation support on a variety of commercial real estate finance matters, in both federal and state courts.
Previously, Maddox held senior positions with major firms, including Citicorp, Weyerhaeuser Mortgage, ARCS Commercial Mortgage (now PNC Real Estate) and Gramercy Capital. As co-Principal of Private Equity Partners, LLC, he also provided financial and strategic leadership to several start-up and emerging growth technology companies.
Maddox is a sustaining board member of the UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate, has participated as a speaker at many industry events, and has served as a guest lecturer at both UCLA Anderson School of Management and UCLA School of Law. He is past co-chair of the annual Crocker Symposium (hosted jointly by the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Ziman Center); member of the American Bankruptcy Institute; and co-founder and past President of ARIA!, a non-profit in support of the Los Angeles Opera. Maddox holds a Master of Business Administration from UCLA's Anderson School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Claremont McKenna College.
