Generous Donation from The Wilson Foundation will enable high school students to learn about business ethics while participating in a week long case competition
TORONTO, Aug. 10, 2015 /CNW/ - JA Canada, the largest provider of youth business education programs in Canada today announced that the Wilson Foundation has made a significant two year financial commitment to support the JA Canada Next Generation Leader's conference. In alignment with a key strategic focus of the Wilson Foundation on supporting Business Ethics for Canadians, business ethics will be fully integrated into topics throughout the week long conference.
"We are delighted to be supporting the JA Canada NGL conference and to have this opportunity to facilitate the teaching of business ethics to the future leaders of tomorrow," said L.R. Wilson, Chairman of The Wilson Foundation and Chancellor of the Canadian Business Hall of Fame. "As the business environment becomes increasingly complex, navigating this complexity necessitates that business education, and in particular Business Ethics Education, begin as early as possible."
"We are deeply grateful to Mr. Wilson for this very generous gift and his long standing support of JA Canada and the Canadian Business Hall of Fame," said Keith Publicover, President & CEO JA Canada. "Business ethics is a complex topic that is being recognized more and more as being a critical component of business education. JA Canada is excited to work with Mr. Wilson to fully integrate this into the core teachings of the conference."
The Next Generation Leaders (NGL) Conference is an international, five-day learning opportunity for participants of JA programs. JA Canada organizes and hosts NGL at a committee selected University campus annually in August. The event brings together high school students from around the world for a week of inspiration, skill development, practical challenges and mentorship. Industry and business leaders are invited to attend as well serving as speakers, facilitators, mentors and volunteers
The gift will enable JA Canada to add Business Ethics modules to sessions throughout the JA NGL Forum and to focus the week long case study competition on Business Ethics. At the conference that begins today at Trent University students will:
- Attend workshops and speaker sessions on topics including ethics in Canadian business in order to understand how Canada plays a leading role in business ethics education
- Learn to evaluate their decision-making processes and implement ethical decisions in the context of business development and operations
- Have the opportunity through a group business challenge to conduct research and make a presentation relating to ethics in business and have students participate in an intensive focus group related to business ethics.
