      YWCA Hamilton Opens Nomination call for Women of Distinction 2010

HAMILTON, ON, Nov. 20 /CNW/ - You know her. She is the leader who goes the extra mile. The foremother who broke through the barriers. The young woman who shows promise beyond her years. The hard-working woman who makes a difference but never seeks the limelight. The well-known figurehead who makes a mark and deserves honour: See her recognized at a gala celebration before an audience of 600 on May 4 2010.

Nominations open today, and close February 19, 2010.

Women can be nominated in the following categories:

    -   Arts, Entertainment and Creative Energy
    -   Politics and Public Affairs
    -   Health and Wellness
    -   Community Development and Social Activism
    -   Mentoring and Education
    -   Business, Industry and Entrepreneurship
    -   Volunteerism
    -   Young Woman of Distinction
    -   Circle of Friends
    -   Lifetime Achievement

All nominees will be announced at an International Women's Day Breakfast on March 11, 2010. Subsequently, a panel of independent community members will select an outstanding ten women to be recognized at the YWCA Women of Distinction gala dinner and fundraiser on May 4, 2010 at the Hamilton Convention Centre.

All funds raised will go to support YWCA Hamilton's critical community programs, improving the life of the community through women's support and leadership. Founded in 1889, YWCA Hamilton offers programs in the following areas: Transitional and Supportive Housing; Health and Wellbeing; Employment and Skills Development; and Children and Youth.

Celebrated in Hamilton since 1976, the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards (formerly Woman of the Year Awards) are recognized as one of the most prestigious awards for women across Canada. YWCAs honour the achievements of women through Women of Distinction Awards in 24 communities across Canada. Nominees must live in the city of Hamilton or make their contributions in the City of Hamilton.
